Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is a great movie. It is funny, warm, exciting, and it inspired many. It also inspired many of us to go on a road trip with our friends. The idea of going on a journey with people you love, of exploring new places and tasting new food, of having interrupted time with each other, and of experiencing planned and unplanned events strikes a chord with us. Add in a picture of a setting sun while a scarf flows through the window, and we’re sold on the idea.
We might not go to Spain for a road trip but India is filled with beautiful places which can be covered in a road trip. Planning a road trip in India with your friends is an exciting affair but getting everyone on board, finalising places that everyone likes, and figuring out a bunch of dates that everyone can spare can also be tiring. To make your life easier, here are 5 road trip essentials you should tick-off your list before you leave in the early morning:
- A Rad Playlist - Let’s be real, a road trip cannot be a success unless you have good music to accompany you. Nowadays, music apps have got you covered with their pre-made playlists, but if you take out some time and make a playlist for this specific route and with your specific companions, we promise you that your journey will be all the more enjoyable.
- First-aid box - Having a first aid box with you is essential. Being on the road, you might get stuck somewhere help may not be readily available. At such times, having a first aid box in the car can be a tremendous help. Before you put your first aid box in the car, make sure it has all the necessary items. First aid box items you need to have: plasters in a variety of different sizes and shapes, small, medium and large sterile gauze dressings, at least 2 sterile eye dressings, triangular bandages, crêpe rolled bandages, safety pins, disposable sterile gloves, tweezers, scissors, alcohol-free cleansing wipes, sticky tape, thermometer (preferably digital), skin rash cream, such as hydrocortisone or calendula, cream or spray to relieve insect bites and stings, antiseptic cream, painkillers such as paracetamol (or infant paracetamol for children), aspirin (not to be given to children under 16), or ibuprofen, antihistamine cream or tablets, distilled water for cleaning wounds, eye wash and eye bath.
- Tire Repair Kit - Before you set off on your adventure, make sure you have a spare tire in your dickie and a tire repair kit along with it. Tyres getting punctures is fairly common and if it happens to you, it should just be a hiccup in your trip and not a big hurdle. If you have never changed a tyre before, we would recommend that you try doing it with someone experienced before the trip. Also, make sure to download a tire changing tutorial video for your particular car to your gallery so even if you’re out of network, you will be able to go ahead and change the tire. Getting stranded because of a punctured tyre can seriously put a damper on the trip, so make sure you know your tyres well.
- A List of All the Popular Food Joints On Your Route - You might be travelling down south through Western ghats or in the north through the Himalayas, you will surely come across small towns and their food specialities. It will be a shame if you travel so far and miss out on the amazing food that our diverse country has to offer. Doing thorough research and finding out popular dishes and eateries would add flavours to your roadtrip. You may not find a popular restaurant or eatery for everything, but knowing where to stop for some delicacies can help a lot!
- Snacks n Drinks - Sitting in the car for hours together makes you want to nibble on something. Going for a trip without a bag full of snacks is unheard of in India.
